A rape victim is not always a female. Men raped by women are often overlooked victims and this crime is sometimes made fun of. According to 2003 statistics released by the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), one in every eight rape victims were male. RAINN’s website states that 60% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police; although gender was not specified, raped men rarely come forward.
Female Offenders and Gang Raping
Online newspapers are reporting that women are gang raping men. In Zimbabwe, there are women who are drugging, robbing and gang raping men.
On October 6, 2010, the New Zimbabwe reported that a man was kidnapped, drugged and gang raped by three women. The 26 year old victim was offered a drive but passed out in the vehicle after he was grabbed from behind and a cloth soaked in chloroform was put over his face. "After he woke up he was naked and the ladies took turns to rape him and abuse him," said police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena.
This incident was the fifth such attack reported in several parts of Zimbabwe and is being carried out by groups of women.
Wayne Bvudzijena stated, "A docket for aggravated assault has since been opened in these cases." Zimbabwe law does not recognize men being raped by women as a crime. In the other incidents, women have raped men at gunpoint, and in September 2010, two women forced a man to have sex with them while another man stood guard.
Female Offenders Committed Rape at Gunpoint
In 2005 in South Africa, three women in a BMW ambushed a 30 year old man. They coerced him to have drinks then drove him to a dark field.
Police Captain, Paula Nothnagel stated to reporters, “One of the women pulled out a gun and held up the man while the other two undressed. Then all three of them raped him in turn, with one of them keeping the gun pointed at him."
Women and Violence
In an article called “Yes fellas, it is possible to be raped by women,” that appeared at TimesLive in South Africa, the writer reports about several cases of raped males.
In Pakistan, a 23 year-old Karachi waiter was lured into a vehicle, drugged then three women forced him to have sex for four days.
A 30 year old male in Malaysia was kidnapped and forced to have sex with ten prostitutes. The man was originally kidnapped by a group of men who demanded a ransom from his family. While they waited for the ransom to be paid, they made him have intercourse with ten prostitutes.
Black Widow Drugged and Raped Males
In 2009, a young Russian woman was on trial in Australia for drugging ten men with clonidine then raping them.
This woman was nicknamed the Black Widow as she had a love for spiders. She invited these men to her place (all separate occasions), and gave them drinks with clonidine. Once her victims were asleep, she undressed them and tied their male organs.
All ten victims ended up waking up in hospital with clonidine poisoning and penis trauma. When questioned by police, the victims could only remember that there was a friendly brunette who gave them drinks.
Raped Males are Victims Too
‘When Men are Raped’ is a publication written by the Ohio State University Rape Education and Prevention Program. It was funded through a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. This publication’s opening remarks speak to this crime:
“The rape of adult males has been so largely neglected and collectively denied that its invisibility has given rise to the notion that it just does not occur in our society. While some acknowledgment of male rape in prisons and jails has emerged in recent years, most people do not consider the sexual violation of adult males to be within the realm of possibility in non-institutional communities. When men are raped, they are usually assaulted by other men. Although it is possible for women to rape men, this crime has been documented and researched to an even lesser extent than same-sex rape.”
